About Little QT
The idea for LittleQT was born out of frustration with the lack of Quality Time I had to spend with my own children. Having worked both inside and outside of my home, I really struggled to have meaningful time each day with my kids. Between work, meal prep, chores and sleep, I would often spend 24 hours within 6 feet of my kids but never really interact. Even when I was able to carve out a little chunk of time to be present with them, I often spent it trying to think of "something fun" to do.
Enter a trip to the craft closet. I couldn't think of anything to do with the 15 billion things I had in there. Then it was off to the dollar store to buy some more glue (along with 37 dollars worth of other stuff I didn’t know I needed) only to get home and realize I had forgotten the googly eyes. Is it even considered a craft without googly eyes? Generally, by the time I had figured out what we were going to do, the window of opportunity was gone and it was off to the next thing life brought our way.
I decided to create kits full of short activities based on a specific theme so we had loads of things to do. Having the kits based around a theme meant that we had something to talk about during times when undivided attention was not possible. My children loved it, having more of these snippets of Quality Time was instrumental in them developing independence in other areas. I found that if I could spend those few minutes engaged in the activities I had created ahead, they were less demanding of my time when I couldn’t give them 100% of my attention (like when the teacher or your boss calls, in the grocery store, or at bed time!!) I had so much sucess with the kits with my own family that I gave a bunch out to friends and neighbours who all had similar experiences with their children! The idea really took off from there!
